Wills
isued two sets whcih had a very similar visual style (hence I show only
one card). These are fairly early sets and show many a silent film star.
Both sets have 25 cards in them and both were issued in 1928
You will get quotes for both sets.

Ogdens
produced this set late in the cigarette card day and is unusual for showing
the actor both as himself and as a charcater as can be seen from the card
illustrated. It was voted as the best issue of 1938.
Ogdens,
Actors Natural and Character Studies [1938] (50 cards)
This
is a card from Players, Film Stars 1st series which is stylistically similar
to the first series. These are probably the series most people associate
with film star cards when they think of the theme.
Players,
Film Stars 1st series [1934] (50 cards)
This
is from the Players, Film Stars 2nd series issue. Again 50 cards.
Players
Film Stars 2nd series [1934] (50 cards)
Players
third series was a slight departure from previous forays into this theme.
Again a 50 card series.
Players,
Film Stars 3rd series [1938] (50 cards)
Unusual
in its focus of British born film stars which is nice. It is also not
printed in colour which is unusual. An excellent series.
Ardath,
British Born Film Stars [1934]
Godfrey
Phillips really got involved in the film star theme and tried hard to
get away from the formula approach. This set has a 'metallic' style finish
which does not really show in the scan.
Godfrey
Phillips, Film Favourites [1934] 50 cards
Another
issue of Godfrey Phillips and wonderful they are too.
Godfrey
Phillips Film Stars [1934] 50 cards
Godfrey
Phillips went for the romance with this set and who can blame them, silver
screen kisses always seemed so much mor hygenic than the popcorn fuelled
grasping that was going on in the cinema.
Godfrey
Phillips, Famous Love Scenes [1939] (36 cards)
A more
conventional approach (apart from the size of card that is) for this set
by Godfrey Phillips. Still a great set of cards is always a great set
of cards.
Godfrey
Phillips, Shots from the Films [1934] (36 cards)
This
one is character based so the stars are in costume. You have to go a long
way to improve on Colbert in Cleopatra here. Perhaps historically alarming
for thoseradicals that do not believe Cleopatra was a white American but
this is the films.
Godfrey
Phillips, Characters Come to Life [1938] (36 cards)
Gallaher
were also a keen producer of film stars sets taking a more stylistic approach
to their illustration as so often was the case.
Gallaher,
Famous Film Scenes [1935] 48 cards
This
set will always be inportant to me as it sparked the interest to collect
and deal in these cards some 25 odd years ago.
Gallaher
My Favourite Part [1939] 48 cards
Gallaher
were keen enough on the 'shots from' theme to produce a number in that
style.
Gallaher,
Shots from Famous Films [1935] 48 cards
Gallaher,
Stages of Stage and Screen (green back). As the title suggests stage stars
also get a mention in this set which is nice to see.
It is the same set as the brown back version only costs considerably less
which is never a bad thing.
