Cricket is a long warm summers day relaxing in a chair and keeping half an eye on what is happening. Time to talk to your neighbour and reflect the merits of this generation compared with the giants of the game.
Now a chance to see the greats in their pomp when the sun never stopped shining and everything was great. Yep, mythical days indeed.

Franklyn Cards : Selling a better grade of card for 25 years.
A nice set brought out for the Ashes clash of that year. Cricketers are seen doing what they are best at, although some of the illustrations would leave you wondering quite how good they were at the job.   Players Cricketers 1930 [1930] TICK BOX
FOR QUOTE

A change of style for the next Ashes confrontation, head shots. Afterall we know Bradman could bat, none better, so no need to show him wielding the willow in some unlikely pose. The Don, Players, Cricketers, 1934   Players Cricketers 1934 [1934]
Never letting the theme go stale this time Players add the county emblem onto the card nice touch for a set about to be mauled by the Second World War. Plenty left and plenty failed to come back.   Players Cricketers 1938 [1938]
Players having some good natured fun with our summer game. A very popular set this one.   Players Cricketing Caricatures by RIP [1926]
One of the great cricketing sets. Actually early sports series have the added bonus of being quite early in the games development and as such depict some of the games heroes before they slipped into the strange world of legends. SF Barnes, Wills, Cricketers 1908.   Wills Cricketers [1908]
Actually produced two sets in consecutive years, this is the first series. The late twenties a lovely period of very Englsih cricket, some of the old guard are still there but the next generation of great is coming through. A rich and well depicted series of cards these.   Wills Cricketers 1928 [1928]
Well intentioned set by Churchmans, doesn't necessarily push the boundaries of cricket as depicted on cigarette cards but sometimes not re-inventing the wheel is the best way forward. Wills, Crickeeters 1928 [1928] Jack Hobbs   Churchmans Cricketers [1936]
Churchman take a different approach to distinguish their output. This time focusing on this little badges and emblems the players wore before the days of advertising. They still do of course but now can be crowded by other forms of sponsership.   Churchmans Famous Cricket Colours [1928]
Nice set, pity there is not more than 30 cards, don't ask me why such a number. A good photo series and that is always good to see. Not a lot of protective padding on these fellows apart from the natural variety.   Carreras Cricketers (30 card series) [1934]
Another photo series. Some of these fellows are obviously being photographed rather than playing a game. Either that or Gimblett is really keen to attack the bowler in this picture as he is at least half way down the wicket chasing a most tremendous wide only to be playing what looks like being a defensive stroke. Still that's English cricket for you.   Ogdens Prominent Cricketers of 1938 [1938]
Cricket is not just played by the Poms and the Aussies as this set proves. Thank the good Lord (or common sense) the political situation in S.Africa has changed so we can watch them playing sport again. Its a funny world, although it rarely makes me laugh out loud.   Hills Famous Cricketers including the South African Test Team [1925]
