Never wanted to be anything other than an actor, more theatre than film.
His stage debut was 1925 at Letchworth.
His film debut was 1930, The Temporary Widow.
Film was second fiddle really and seemed a way to pay the bills between theatre engagements.
His later years were ones of ill-health and his films represent a desire to provide for his children rather than his art.
