Armed with a Sorbonne, philosophy degree began a well recieved stage career
Went to Hollywood to make French versions of films but returned to Paris dis-illusioned.
Went back again and became a Hollywood exotic although continued to spend six months of the year in France.
One of his best roles as as Ingrid Bergman's husband in Gaslight [1944]
In 1951 he founded Four Star Television with Dick Powell and David Niven
He killed himself 2 days after the death of his wife. There only son had killed himself in 1965.
