Shot himself because of a disease nobody could convince him was curable.
An outstanding professional of his day and a great assset to Nottinghamshire batting.
He was medicore until a winter visit to Australia in 1881-82 where the climate and sea air proved most agreeable to his constitution.
He considered one of his best innings to be the 164 against Australia in 1886 at Lord's.
Went back out there in 1888 to be a manager of a football team.
