His passing closed off a great deal of cricket history.
He had played both with and against WG Grace.
Kept wicket for England against Australia in the First World War.
At the time of his death he had been the oldest living Test cricketer.
He kept wicket for Warwickshire from 1904 despite the loss of two fingertips in a works accident.
He made his test debut in 1911.
He continued to play for Warwickshire until 1930 at which point he became an Umpire.
