A cricket legend.
Surely one of the greatest cricket all-rounders England has ever produced.
Played his first class cricket for Yorkshire, a county blessed with more
than its fair share of history.
A natural slow left-hand bowler by determination he made himself a right
handed batsman.
So determined he ended up opening bat for England having worked his way
up from last man in.
A Test career which ran for 30 years and 315 days (the longest ever, Notingham
1899 to Kingston 1929-30)
Also meant at 52 years and 165 days he was the oldest player ever to wander
onto a Test pitch.
A remarkable man, he was blind from 1952.
