England Captain and one of the great amatuer batsman.
Caught tick fever visiting Southern Rhodesia and never really recovered.
Oxford Blue.
Played for Surrey from 1923 taking over the Captiancy from PGH Fender in 1932.
Toured Australia 1928-9
He also Captained the Australian tour when the leg theory attack was used with some determination.
Quite possibly the most controverisal playing tactic in cricket.
In 1934 the MCC effectively banned this form of bowling.
Meanwhile the West Indies had also employed the tactic in the 1933 Test at Old Trafford.
Jardine was out to prove a point and stood resolute at the crease for almost five hours scoring his only Test century (127).
In the process he took a deal of physical punishment but the 'Iron Duke' had proved a point.
