Captain of Essex 1904-1906. Gained Oxford Blue in 1897. Scored over 1000 runs in five seasons for Essex. Fane also took over the England Captain role in the 1907-8 Tour of Australia. He was also part of a curious incident when Wisden reported his death as Dec 9, 1954. This was in fact the death of his cousin also F.L Fane. The amazing thing being his father was also the subject to the same error.
