| Ill-health meant his career was effectively only 8 seasons. Very promising batsman and slip fielder with 243 catches to his credit. Played for Sussex from 1926 and Captained them in 1932. This also the year of his retirement by advisement of doctors. Appeared 12 times for England. At Lord's in 1930 facing Australia for the first time he scored 173.
