| Died when steamships Oberon and Arcturus collided. Something of an all-rounder, was a fine boxer (1908 Olympic champion) and played Association football for Corinthians and the Casuals. Primarily a batsman he could also bowl. In 1905 he took 5 wickets in 8 balls for 0 against Yorkshire He had a very stout defence at the crease. Against Kent he batted for an hour and a half for 8 runs not out. Became Captain of Essex in 1911 till 1928. |
