A great bowler but was easily put off.
A perfectionist who allowed any misfortune or even cross-word to break his concentration.
Unfortunately played for Northamptonshire who during this period had more misfortunes occur than most.
Injured in 1928 his test debut was 1929.
Was criticised for taking leg-theory a little too far against South Africa.
