Son of 'BIlly' Bates the famous Yorkshire bat.
Despite seven seasons with Yorkshire could not secure a regular place for them.
So went to Glamorgan where he was a steady bat.
Exceeeded 1000 runs in six seasons.
Best year being 1927 when he got 1575 runs with four centuries plus.
Retired in 1931.
